family fun, i AM this much of a nerd

Train trips!!

So for my birthday VJ got me tickets to take the train up to L.A. for the day! BEST. TIME. EVER! I love taking trains and really don’t get to partake as much as I’d like to, so off we went to cruise around ye olde Los Angeles.

All aboard!

We boarded the train and really REALLY wanted to sit in the seats that had a fold out table. Alas, you had to be special to sit there… only parties of 3 or more allowed! That didn’t stop us though and we quickly made the acquaintance of a kind looking bloke to be our 3rd party. Here is our new friend Joel with VJ, and the infamous sign!

Union Station in L.A. blew my mind. I had only been there once before, on a train trip from Arizona to Orange County, but pretty much went from one train to the next and did not have a chance to poke around the art deco-y awesomeness of it all. The main lobby was beautiful, high ceilings and just had that reminiscence of those days gone by. I just had to have a souvenir and while the pickin’s were slim I got this cute Union Station mug that has now become my morning tea mug at work.

I can always remember the fun when I drink from my mug!

We spent the rest of the day walking around Little Tokyo, Olvera Street and Chinatown. Look at us, three different cultural experiences in one day! In Little Tokyo we had some AMAZING sushi in a little mom and pop place. Over at Olvera Street we toured the oldest house in Los Angeles, built in 1810. To round off the day we finished off in Chinatown with lots of store browsing and the best Orange Chicken ever for dinner! I got to meet friends of VJ’s, Miss Kendra and Jessica, and got to see VJ’s little sister again as well. What a fun group!! Thanks again wifey for the awesome day, it will most definitely become at least an annual trip, if not bi-annual! xoxoxo!
